So, I did a “thing”

That’s what the younger kids say…”I did a thing.”  After looking for a community of “older” new moms and not finding much, this geriatric mom did a “thing” and started a blog in hopes that other older new moms can find support, kindness, and other people to share their experiences or answer questions.

Why Geriatric Mom?  Most any mom who became pregnant at the age of 35 will tell you most doctors throw you into the geriatric category as soon as you hit that splendid age.  I got pregnant at 32, had a miscarriage, got pregnant again and had my first at 33.  Had my son at 36.  And I am currently pregnant with another boy at the ripe old age of 39.  I saw a midwife and she never made an issue of my age.  However, with my first geriatric pregnancy, my midwife was attached to a doctor’s office.  They made a huge issue of my age and I often felt bullied into tests I didn’t really want.  I would even joke that the eggs were 35 years old, so they didn’t need to worry.

My midwife always eased my mind and even with my most recently pregnancy, they have never made me feel bad for being older.  This experience and the feelings I personally have about being an older mom inspired me to start this community to support other women.
